December 31, 2007

Warrant Served

At 11:30 pm, P.O. Brian Scott and P.O. Michael Trover took custody of a 34 year old Waldwick woman, who was arrested by East Rutherford Police for several outstanding warrants.  The woman was unable to post her $500 bail and subsequently was transported to Bergen County Jail until she was able to post bail.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

At 3:15 am, P.O. Frank Riggio determined that a vehicle travelling on Maple Avenue was a reported stolen vehicle out of the City of Hackensack.  The 44 year old Fair Lawn resident operating the vehicle was taken into custody and issued several summons.  She was served the complaint out of Hackensack Municipal Court and awaits a court date.

Motor Vehicle Warrant Arrest

At 10:45 am, During the course of a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Michael Ciaramella determined that the operator residing from Ridgewood had a outstanding warrant out of Glen Rock Municipal Court.  The operator posted $235 bail and was release.

Burglary to a Motor Vehicle

At 2:55 pm, A Rodney Street resident reported someone had broken the passenger side window on her vehicle and stole a portable GPS unit valued at $510.  According to the resident, no other items were taken.  Detective Bureau will continue the investigation.

Theft of $45,000 by Deception

At 2:13 pm, a Cliffside Park female reported that someone had applied for 2 loans totaling $45,000 from a credit establishment on Harristown Road without her permission.  The detective bureau is currently investigating.

Theft of $77,000 by Deception

At 4:50 pm, a North Bergen male reported that someone had secured loans totaling $77,000 from a credit establishment on Harristown Road without his permission.  The detective bureau is currently investigating.

Bad Checks Reported

At 3:05 pm, a Old Bridge male reported he received two bad checks totaling $10,000 from a Clifton company for services rendered on Elmwood Avenue.  This matter has been passed on to the detective bureau for further investigation.

Warrant Arrest in Municipal Court

At 7:25 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 43 year old Englewood man for a outstanding warrant out of the City of Paterson.  The man was unable to post the $1000 bail and was turned over to the Paterson Police Department.

Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Arrest

At 6:19 pm, P.O. James Calaski arrested a 47 year old Englewood man for a outstanding warrant out of the City of Englewood.  The man was unable to post the $178 bail and was turned over to the Englewood Police Department.

Burglary of a Store

At 11:29 am, the owner of a Prospect St. store reported that the rear door of his establishment had been forced open sometime during the night.  A check of the store determined that approximately $300 was taken out of the register.  No other items appeared to be taken.  The detective bureau was notified.

Narcotics Arrest as a Result of a Motor Vehicle Stop

At 10:52 am, P.O. Michael Trover arrested a 45 year old Midland Park man and charged him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  During the course of a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Trover determined that the man had in his possession several little packages of a controlled dangerous substance.  The man was served several criminal summons with a court date for a mandatory appearance.

Man Arrested as a Result of a Motor Vehicle Stop for Outstanding Warrants

At 12:30 am, P.O. Dean Ackermann arrested a 26 year old Passaic man for 4 outstanding warrants out of the township of Woodridge, Passaic, and Rutherford.  The man posted $2033 in bail and was released.

At 3:08 pm, a Glen Rock man reported that a back pack blower valued at $600 was removed from a unlocked garage at a commercial building on Rock Road.  The matter was turned over to the Detective Bureau.

At 4:57 pm, a Valley Road resident reported that her unlocked garage and vehicle were entered and the vehicle's "Easy Pass" device was removed.  Detective Bureau was notified.

Computer Theft

At 5:05 pm, a Alan Avenue resident reported that his AOL Email and MySpace accounts were accessed and all information were deleted.  The case was turned over to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Computer Crimes Task Force.

Weapons Arrest in Municipal Court

At 4:30 pm, P.O. Michael Trover arrested a 23 year old East Rutherford man for possession of a weapon.  The man was attempting to enter Glen Rock Municipal Court when he set off the metal detector.  The man was released on his own recognizance and issued a court date with a mandatory appearance.

Man Arrested in Connection to the November 26 Motor Vehicle Accident.

At 6:15 pm, Detective Eric Reamy arrested a 20 year old Englewood man in connection a motor vehicle accident on November 26 which left one Glen Rock man in serious condition with trauma to the his head.  The man was charged with several counts and was unable to post a $50,000 bail.  The man was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a hearing in Superior Court.

Two Individuals Arrested in Glen Rock Municipal Court

At 5:46 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 27 year old Paterson man when he discovered he had 2 outstanding warrants out of the Borough of Ridgefield and the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights.  The man was unable to post the $1842 bail out of Ridgefield or the $700 bail out of Hasbrouck Heights and was turned over to Ridgefield Police.

At 5:47 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 21 year old Englewood woman when he discovered she had 2 outstanding warrants out of the Borough of Teaneck and the Borough of Fair Lawn.  The woman was unable to post the $187 bail out of Teaneck or the $89 bail out of Fair Lawn and was turned over to Teaneck Police.

Motor Vehicle Accident Results in Glen Rock Resident in Critical Condition

At 4:48 pm, P.O. Michael Ciaramella responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Oaklynn Road.  Upon his arrival, P.O. Ciaramella found a 19 year old Glen Rock man had sustained serious life-threatening injuries, 2 others had fled the scene.  One of the men who fled the scene, later turned himself into police.  The second mand, the driver, is still at large.  The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Investigations Unit responded along with Detective Eric Reamy to further the investigation.  The Glen Rock man was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for medical attention.

At 6:56 pm, a Emerson Road resident reported that several pieces of jewelry were removed from a jewelry box in her residence.  The jewelry was valued at approximately $2000.  The detective bureau was notified.

At 9:04 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrest a 23 year old Butler man after he found drugs in his vehicle.  The man was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was issued several summons with a court date for a mandatory appearance.

Motor Vehicle Stop Results in Two Arrests

At 6:55 pm, P.O. Anna Marie Mattina arrested a 50 year old Fair Lawn man and a 51 year old Fair Lawn woman when she discovered they both had outstanding warrants.  The man had warrants out of the City of Newark and the woman had warrants out of the Borough of Glen Rock.  The man and woman posted $254 each and was released.

At 9:47 am, a Massachusetts woman reported sometime during the night, her unlocked vehicle was entered and a digital camera was removed from her vehicle.  The detective bureau was notified.

Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Two Arrests

At 5:30 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 18 year old Ringwood man and a 26 year old Wanaque man.  P.O. Scott charged the 18 year old with possession of a unlawful weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The man was unable to post the $1000 bail and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail.  The 26 year old man was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  The man was unable to post the $5000 bail and was also remanded to the the Bergen County Jail.  Both were issued criminal summons and given a court date for mandatory appearances.

At 12:30 pm, P.O. J. Scott McGovern arrested a 26 year old West Paterson woman for a outstanding traffic warrant out of the Borough of West Paterson.  The woman posted $300 bail and was released.

At 8:13 am, P.O. J. Scott McGovern arrested a 34 year old Wallington man for a outstanding traffic warrant out of the City of East Orange. The man posted $250 bail and was released.

Woman Reports She Was Assaulted

At 12:36 am, a Ridgewood resident reported she was assaulted on Brookfield Avenue causing minor injuries.  P.O. Michael Ciaramella treated the woman who refused to go to the hospital.  The woman wished not to sign any complainants at this time.

Motor Vehicle Stop Reveals Man With Warrants

At 11:05 am, P.O. Scott McGovern initialed a motor vehicle stop and revealed that the driver had two outstanding warrants from Paterson Municipal Court.  Subsequently, P.O. McGovern arrested the 32 year old Washington Township man.  The man posted the $950 bail and was released.

Driving While Intoxicated Arrest

At 2:21 am, P.O. Murray Yang conducted a motor vehicle stop for numerous violations and determined the driver was under the influence of a alcoholic beverage.  P.O. Yang arrested the 38 year old Haledon man and charged him with driving while intoxicated.  The man was issued several summons and his vehicle was impounded in accordance to John's Law.  He was released to a family member and was given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

Speeder Arrested for Driving While Intoxicated

At 12:18 am, P.O. Mike Trover observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Maple Avenue.  P.O. Trover conducted a motor vehicle stop which resulted in the arrest of a 26 year old Lodi man.  He was charged with driving while intoxicated.  The man was issued several summons and his vehicle was impounded in accordance to John's Law.  He was released to a family member and was given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

At 8:45 pm, Det. Eric Reamy arrested and charged a 36 year old Paterson man with one count of motor vehicle theft and eight counts of theft.  The man was detained at the Bergen County Jail awaiting his mandatory court appearance.

At 11:49 pm, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 35 year old man on a immigration violation following a motor vehicle stop.  The man was transported to the Bergen County Jail awaiting deportation by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Jon Miller Promoted to Rank of Lieutenant

At a Borough Council meeting, Sgt. Jon Miller was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.  Lt. Miller, a 22 year veteran of the Glen Rock Police Department, served as the Information and Technology Sergeant since 2006, as well as a road supervisor.  He will now be in charge of the Patrol Division.

Motor Vehicle Stop Reveals Warrant

At 12:09 am, during the course of a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Dean Ackermann arrested a 54 year old Teaneck man for a outstanding motor vehicle warrant out of Newark Municipal Court.  The man posted $114 bail and was released.

Man Walking on the Tracks Arrested

At 8:57 am, P.O. Robert Wojtecki observed a man walking on the train tracks.  After further investigation, it was determined that the 55 year old Hawthorne man had an outstanding warrant out of Clifton Municipal Court.  Unable to post the $3500 bail, the man was detained at Glen Rock Police Headquarters and subsequently turned over to Clifton Police.

At 7:56 pm, P.O. Scott McGovern arrested a 22 year old Paterson man after it was determined he had a $1000, outstanding warrant out of Fair Lawn Municipal Court.  The man was turned over to Fair Lawn Police for processing.

At 1:48 pm, P.O. Michael Trover responded to a call of a motor vehicle accident on Lincoln Avenue.  After a brief investigation, P.O. At 2:48 pm, A Glen Rock resident reported that someone had robbed her of her handbag in the parking lot of Kilroy's and jumped into a black sport utility vehicle.  Officers checked the area but could not find the vehicle.  This matter was turned over to the Detective Bureau.  Anyone with any information is asked to contact Detective Eric Reamy at (201) 652-3800.

At 1:27 pm, P.O. Robert Wojtecki arrested a 21 year old Hawthorne man for theft of cash and merchandise from the Food Basics Supermarket on Lincoln Avenue.  The man was processed, given a date for a mandatory court appearance and released.

At 11:03 am, during the course of a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Jim Calaski arrested a 24 year old female from Rochelle Park after she presented P.O. Calaski with a fraudulent insurance card.  The woman was given a court date to appear and released on her own recognizance.

Motor Vehicle Accident Leads to a D.W.I. Arrest

At 11:20 pm, P.O. Robert Wojtecki responded to Cornwall Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident.  Upon arrival, P.O. Wojtecki arrested a 58 year old Fair Lawn woman for driving while intoxicated.  It was determined that the woman was driving on Cornwall Road when she struck a parked vehicle.   The woman was issued several summons and her vehicle was impounded in accordance to John's Law.  The woman was released to a family friend and was given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

18 Year Old Male Assault in the C.B.D.

At 11:26 pm, Officers were dispatched to the Central Business District on a report of a fight in progress.  Upon their arrival, Officers determined that a 18 year old homeless man was assaulted by multiple subjects and sustained minor facial injuries.  The man refused medical treatment.  This matter was forwarded to the detective bureau for further investigation.

Burglary and Theft from a Motor Vehicle

At 8:10 am, A 41 year old Glen Rock resident reported that sometime during the night, someone had entered his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway on Ferndale Avenue, and removed his wallet and a Nintendo GameBoy.  The wallet was later recovered in a neighbor's yard with nothing missing, but the Nintendo GameBoy was still not accounted for. At 5:05 pm, A Ridgewood resident reported that sometime between 7:30 pm and 7:45 pm, on August 29th, his vehicle was entered and Apple Laptop valued at approximately $1500 was removed from the back seat.  The vehicle was parked in front of the Prospect Street stores and left unlocked.  This matter was turned over to the Detective Bureau for further investigation.

At 4:16 pm, during a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 38 year old Newark woman after it was determined that she had 2 outstanding motor vehicle warrants out of Glen Ridge and Bloomfield.  The woman posted a total of $230 bail and was released.

At 9:03 pm, Det. Eric Reamy and P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 25 year old Hawthorne Man and charged him with two (2) counts of theft.  The man could not post bail and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail.

Captain Garret Merselis Announces His Retirement

Captain Garret Merselis announced his retirement effective January 2, 2008.  Capt. Merselis, a member of the Glen Rock Police Department since 1983, was promoted to Captain of Police on September 2th 2005. Captain Merselis began his career in 1980 as a Police Officer in neighboring Hawthorne .  After joining the GRPD he served as a Patrol Officer for seven years prior to being promoted to Detective in 1987.  In 1998 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to the Patrol Division as a tour supervisor and Traffic Safety Officer.  In 2004 he was promoted to Lieutenant of the Patrol Division. 

In the 1980’s Captain Merselis was a member of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Task Force. In 1993 Captain Merselis became one of Glen Rock’s original DARE instructors and was later trained by the Virginia State Police as a DARE mentor. He has also taught and certified other officers in the DARE curriculum at the Bergen County Police Academy .  

 

The Glen Rock Police Department and the Borough of Glen Rock thanks Capt. Merselis for his many years of service and wish him and his family good luck for the future.

Man Arrested and Charged With Assault and Trespassing

At 10:07 pm, P.O. Robert Wojtecki arrested a 56 year old Lodi man and charged him with simple assault and criminal trespassing.  A investigation revealed that the man forced his way into residence on Midwood Road by pushing the homeowner down at the front door.  Responding officers were able to arrest the man at the home.  The man was transported to Bergen Regional for evaluation.  The man was given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

Drug Arrest

At 6:11 pm, P.O. Michael Trover arrested a 27 year old Glen Rock resident and charged him with possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic needle.  The man could not post bail and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail and was given a court date for a mandatory appearance.

Man Charged for Threats and Harassment

At 12:00 pm, Det. Eric Reamy and P.O. Jim Calaski charged a 31 year old Plainfield man who was remanded at the Somerset County Jail, with one count of terroristic threats and one count of harassment.  The man was remanded to the Somerset County Jail and will be ordered to appear at a future court date.

Burglary and Theft to a Motor Vehicle

At 3:15 am, P.O. Murray Yang responded to a report of a burglary and theft to a motor vehicle on DeBoer Drive.  Upon arrival, P.O. Yang found the rear window to a truck smashed.  The owner of the vehicle, a 33 year old male from Vernon stated that sometime during the night, someone broke into his vehicle and removed cash, a cell phone, and two (2) watches with a total value of $550.  The Detective Bureau was notified and will be investigating.

Homeowner's Guest Arrested for Theft

At 12:34 pm, A Glen Rock resident reported the theft of jewelry and cash from the residence.  At 9 pm, after a investigation by Det. Eric Reamy, arrested a 30 year old Lincoln Park resident, who was a house guest for the resident and charged her with theft.  The woman was released and given a court date for a mandatory appearance.

At 9:12 am, Wayne Township recovered a vehicle in their jurisdiction which was stolen out of Glen Rock on August 1.  The owner of the vehicle was notified and the Detective Bureau was advised.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered

At 11:35 am, P.O. Scott McGovern responded to call for a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of the Recycle Center.  A computer check revealed the vehicle was stolen on July 4, 2007 out of the Village of Ridgewood.  The matter was turned over to the Ridgewood Detective Bureau.

At 3:55 pm, P.O. Frank Riggio arrested a 30 year old Clifton man for two outstanding warrants out of Passaic County Sheriffs Department and Clifton Municipal Court.  He was detained and turned over to the Passaic County Sheriffs Department.

At 2:31 pm, P.O. Anna Marie Mattina responded to the Glen Rock High School on a report that football equipment was stolen from the trailers located on the grounds of the High School.  This manner was turned over to the Detective Bureau.

At 12:59 pm, A 57 year old Freehold woman reported that her vehicle was broken into and items were taken while parked in a lot on Harristown Road.

At 02:03 pm, a 31 year old Glen Rock resident reported her vehicle had been stolen out of the parking lot of the Glen Rock Municipal Pool.  This matter was turned over to the Detective Bureau.

Fraudulent Prescription Leads to Arrest

At 4:25 pm, P.O. Scott McGovern responded to a local pharmacy on a report that a party attempted to obtain narcotics using a forged prescription.  The party fled before police arrived but a description of the party was given.  On July 31, 2007, Detective Eric Reamy arrested a 23 year old Maywood woman and charged her with attempting to obtain controlled dangerous substance with a forged prescription.

At 2:36 am, Sgt. Dan Dour arrested a 35 year old Blauvelt, New York woman for driving while intoxicated.  The woman was issued several summons and her vehicle was impounded in accordance to John's Law.  She was released to a family member and was given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

At 2:46 pm, P.O. Robert Wojtecki arrested a 29 year old, Elmwood Park man when a computer check revealed he had outstanding warrants out of Montvale and the Hunterdon County Sheriffs Department.  The man was taken to police headquarters and turned over to the Montvale Police Department.

At 11:30 pm, a Glen Rock resident reported that he witnessed an unknown person entered a vehicle belonging to his friend.  A search of the area did not reveal the subject.  It was later determined that nothing was missing from the vehicle and no damage was done. ***RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO LOCK ALL VEHICLES WHEN THEY ARE UNATTENDED***

At 10:01 am, P.O. Robert Wojtecki responded to report of a motor vehicle accident on Glen Avenue.  Upon arrival, P.O. Wojtecki arrested a 48 year old, Glen Rock resident for driving while intoxicated.  The man was also charged with possession of a controlled deadly substance and impersonating a law enforcement officer.  The man was issued several summons and his vehicle was impounded in accordance to John's Law.  He was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center and subsequently released to a family member and given a date for a mandatory court appearance.

At 1:33 am, a Glen Rock resident reported that his residence was entered by force and cash was taken from a drawer in the bedroom.  The resident reported that nothing else was missing.  This matter was turned over to the Detective Bureau.

Man Arrested for Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance and Paraphernalia

At 09:26 am, Police Officer Bryan Scott responded to a residence on Delmar Avenue on a report of a unsecured premise.  Upon securing the residence, P.O. Scott arrested a 20 year old Glen Rock resident for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia.  The resident was issued a summons and a court date to appear.

Animal Traps Taken

At 11:56 a.m., a resident reported that sometime between June 23rd at 11 p.m., and June 24th at 6:30 p.m. unknown persons stole five "Havaheart" animal traps valued at about $300.   The theft was not reported until a day after it was discovered and there were no witnesses.

Men Arrested Attempting to Cash Stolen Checks

At 12:44 p.m., Lt. Fred Stahman and P.O. Bryan Scott were dispatched to a report from employees at the Greater Community Bank at 175 Rock Road that two individuals were attempting to cash stolen forged checks.  Officers arrested a 31-year-old West New York man in the bank and subsequently charged him with receiving stolen property.  The other individual, a 35-year-old Jersey City man, fled the scene and was apprehended by officers in the Main Line train station parking lot.  The man was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, issuing bad checks and forgery.  The 31-year-old man was released on his own recognizance while the 35-year-old posted 10% of $3,600 bail before being released.  The matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action.

Unlocked Bike Stolen from High School

At 5 p.m., a resident reported that a bicycle had been stolen from the Glen Rock High School.  The bike was reportedly left unlocked and unattended at 3:45 p.m. for about an hour.  According to the resident the bike was valued at $500.  

Bicycle owners are urged to ensure that their bikes are securely locked to a fixed object anytime they are left unattended.

At 2:30 a.m., during the course of a routine motor vehicle stop P.O. Michael Trover determined that the driver, a 24-year-old Easton PA woman, was wanted on outstanding warrants out of the Warren Township & Wayne Township Municipal Courts.  The woman was subsequently released on her own recognizance pending an appearance in court.

Driver Arrested for DWI at MV Accident

At 3 a.m., P.O. James Calaski attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Lincoln Avenue.  The vehicle proceeded onto Mawhinny Avenue in Hawthorne where it was involved in a motor vehicle accident.  P.O. Calaski arrested the driver, a-21-year-old Hawthorne man, for DWI as well as issuing him a motor vehicle summons for careless driving.  Officers also determined that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of the North Haledon Municipal Court. The man posted $734 bail and he was later released to a relative who agreed to take responsibility for him in accordance with John’s Law.

At 6:14 p.m., P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 29-year-old Elmwood Park woman while in the Glen Rock Municipal Court answering to charges in Glen Rock.  The woman was wanted on outstanding warrants out of the Wayne Township and Midland Park Municipal Courts.  She was released after posting $ 1,150 bail.

At 10:20 p.m., during the course of a routine motor vehicle stop P.O. Michael Trover arrested a 36-year-old Paramus woman for DWI as well as issuing her a motor vehicle summons for careless driving. Officers also determined that there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of the Elwood Park Municipal Court in the amount of $500. The woman was transported to the Valley Hospital ER in Ridgewood for toxicology tests and was subsequently released to the custody of a family member who agreed to take responsibility for her in accordance with John’s Law.  Her vehicle was also impounded.

At 3:15 p.m., Sgt. Dan Dour and P.O. Frank Riggio responded to a report of a dispute on Rock Road.  Investigation determined that one of the parties involved was wanted on an outstanding criminal warrant out of the Hazlet Municipal Court.  The 28-year-old Haledon man was held in the Glen Rock Police until he could be turned over to the custody of the Hazlet Police Department.

Scott Mc Govern determined that the driver, a 49-year-old Vernon man, was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of the Hawthorne Municipal Court. $ 4,500 Cash Reported Missing

At 9:40 a.m., a Van Allen Road resident reported that $ 4,500 cash was missing from his home while a moving company was working in his residence. The matter was reviewed by the Detective Bureau who determined there was little evidence from which a specific suspect could be identified, no less charged with a theft.  The victim has been in contact with the moving company in an effort to resolve the issue.

Riverdale Man Charged in Six Burglaries

Through a joint investigation with several police departments in Bergen and Passaic Counties, Det. Eric Reamy charged a 37-year-old Riverdale man with six counts of burglary and theft.  The crimes charged occurred between September 2006 and May 2007. In each case, the window of a commercial business was smashed and cash was stolen from the register.

The actor, who was taken into custody by Det. Reamy and P.O James Calaski on May 23rd in Lodi, is also being charged with similar crimes in numerous towns throughout Bergen, Passaic, Morris and Warren counties. 

Cooperating with this investigation were Detectives from Ridgewood, Fair Lawn, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Teaneck, Wayne, Wanaque and Ringwood Police Departments.

MV Stop Results in Warrant and Drug Arrest

At 9:47 p.m., during the course of a routine motor vehicle stop, P.O. Bryan Scott determined that the driver, a 40-year-old Butler man was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of the Mahwah Municipal Court.  Upon further investigation, P.O. Scott charged the man with possession of crack cocaine.  The man posted $750 bail and was released.

At 6 p.m., officers received a report that two bicycles were stolen from the Glen Rock Municipal Pool.  Both bikes had been left unlocked and unattended.  An Officer located one bike abandon on Lincoln Avenue, the second has not been recovered.  There were no witnesses.

Michigan Man Arrest for DWI

At 1:57 a.m., during the course of a routine motor vehicle stop P.O. Murray Yang arrested a 28-year-old Dearborn, Michigan man, for DWI.  The passenger, a Garfield man, was also highly intoxicated and had to be transported to the Valley Hospital ER in Ridgewood for medical treatment due to his level of intoxication. 

The driver was charged and held overnight in the Glen Rock Police lock-up.  He was released at 10:44 am to the custody of a friend who agreed to take responsibility for him in accordance with John’s Law.  His vehicle was also impounded.

Fugitive Arrested Selling Magazines Door-to-Door.

At 6 p.m., P.O. Bryan Scott was dispatched to a report of a suspicious person selling magazines door-to-door.  Following an investigation and a computer check, P.O. Scott determined that the subject, a 25-year-old man from Slidell, LA, was a wanted fugitive from the State of Louisiana.  He was taken into custody and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending extradition proceedings.

At 5:05 p.m., after conducting an investigation related to a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 20-year-old Englewood woman for allowing the operation of an uninsured vehicle and presenting a fraudulent insurance card. The woman was released on her own recognizance and the matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action.

At 1:15 p.m., while assigned to a Click-it or Ticket detail, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested a 42-year-old Ridgefield Park man on two civil contempt of court warrants totaling $ 7,395.  The man, who was unable to post bail, was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until he could be turned over to officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.  He was also issued a summons for driving while suspended.

Glen Rock Officers Arrest Burglary Suspect in Lodi

At 11:38 p.m., Det. Eric Reamy and P.O. James Calaski received information from the Ridgewood Police Detective Bureau regarding an individual who was under surveillance in connection with a string of commercial burglaries in Glen Rock, Ridgewood and several other jurisdictions.  The 37-year-old Riverdale man was located by Glen Rock officers in Lodi.  After being confronted by the officers who identified themselves, the man fled on foot.  Following a foot chase that lasted about six blocks the man was arrested on a warrant out of Ridgewood.  He was remanded to the Bergen County jail on Ridgewood’s warrant as the investigation into additional crimes continued.

At 8 p.m., a resident reported that he left his bike locked to a fence at the bus stop at Cornwall Road and Prospect Street around 8 a.m.  When he returned the bicycle was gone.  The bicycle was valued at approximately $400.

At 7 a.m., officers responded to a report of a commercial burglary at Wilkes Deli on Rock Road .  Investigation found that an unknown actor, who gained entry by smashing the rear door window, removed $ 400 cash from the register. Calaski determined that the man was wanted on two outstanding warrants out of the Elmwood Park and Passaic Municipal Courts.  The man, who was unable to post a total of $ 1,750 bail, was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until he could be turned over to the custody of officers from the Passaic Police Department.

Suspicious Person Loitering Near Burglary Wanted

Just after 3:30 a.m., while investigating the burglary at Gianella's Delicatessen, officers stopped a 35-year-old Fair Lawn man found loitering in the area.  Investigation found that he had no connection to the burglary; however, the man was wanted by the Superior Court in Hackensack for civil contempt.  Sgt. Chris Mc Inerney placed the man under arrest.  The subject was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until he could be turned over to officers from the Bergen County Sheriff's Department.

Suspicious Vehicle Investigation Result in Two Arrests

At 12:50 a.m., while on routine patrol, P.O. Bryan Scott observed a suspicious vehicle turn off of Lincoln Avenue and park on a side street for about five minutes.  Upon approaching the vehicle, P.O. Scott observed a plastic bag with a greenish/brown substance on the front seat.  Two Glen Rock men, ages 19 and 21, were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.  The 19-year-old driver was also charged with possessing an unlawful weapon (knife), possessing a fraudulent driver’s license and drug paraphernalia.  The men were released on their own recognizance pending a court appearance.

Burglary Reported a John's Boy Pizza

At 9:56 a.m., an alert resident out for a morning walk discovered a broken window in the rear alley behind John’s Boy's Pizza on Rock Road and notified police.  The responding officers determined that entry had been gained to the store overnight by breaking out a window in the rear door with a rock. 

The owner reported that $500 in cash was missing from the register.  It is believed that the burglary occurred after 10 p.m. on May 4th and prior to 9:30 a.m. on May 5th.

MV Stop Nets Heroin and DWI Arrest

At 2:05 a.m., while on routine patrol, P.O. Bryan Scott witnessed a motor vehicle cross the center line on Maple Avenue.  Upon investigation he determined probable cause that the driver, a 29-year-old Mahwah man, was under the influence of narcotics.  Subsequent investigation revealed the presence of heroin, methadone, a hypodermic needle and a crack pipe.  The passenger, a 22-year-old Midland park woman, was arrested and charged with possess of those substances. The driver was arrested and charged with DWI and issued a summons for careless driving. 

In accordance with John’s Law the vehicle was impounded and the driver was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until a sober friend agreed to respond and take responsibility for him.  The woman was processed and released on her own recognizance.

At 12:50 a.m., during a motor vehicle stop, P.O. Bryan Scott arrested the driver, a 31-year-old Rochelle Park woman for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.  In accordance with "John’s Law" the woman's car was impounded and she was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until a sober friend agreed to take responsibility for her.

Illegal Dumping Reported at Borough Landfill.

At 1:55 a.m., a DPW worker reported that he witnessed someone illegally dumping at the borough landfill on Doremus Avenue .  P.O. Anna Marie Mattina was able to identify the subject as a Hawthorne resident which led her to sign a complaint against him for illegal dumping.  The matter has been referred to the Glen Rock Municipal court.

Michael Trover arrested a 37-year-old Paramus man for driving while intoxicated.  The driver was also issued a summons for having an open container of alcohol.  After being taking to police headquarters for a Breathalyzer test, the man was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment due to the abnormally high level of alcohol in his system.

Frank Riggio arrested the driver, a 35-year-old Paterson man after determining that the driver had handed him a phony Social Security Card as a form of identification.  The man was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with possession of false government documents.  The man made his first appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court later in the evening where bail was set at $ 2,500.  He was released after posting bail and the matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action.

Dean Ackermann arrested a homeless 18-year-old man and charged him with a burglary and theft on George Road .  The man made his first appearance in the Glen Rock Municipal Court where bail was set at $ 2,500.  The actor was unable to post bail and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail.  The matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office for grand jury action.

Mudslide Causes Highway Accident

As a result of the Nor-Easter which pummeled the area with steady winds and rain, a mudslide occurred on Route 208 southbound near Lincoln Avenue.  The mudslide subsequently caused a multiple vehicle accident on the highway.  There were no injuries, however police and fire personnel had the shut down the highway until the vehicles and mud could be cleared.

Fair Lawn Woman Surrenders at GRPD HQ.

At 8 p.m., a 20-year-old Fair Lawn woman, who had become aware that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Saddle River, turned herself in at Glen Rock Police HQ.  She was able to post $ 215 bail and was subsequently released.

At 2:15 p.m., during the course of a routine motor vehicle stop P.O. Scott Mc Govern determined that the driver, a 26-year-old Glen Rock man, was wanted on two outstanding warrants out of the Mahwah and Haskell Municipal Court.  The man posted $ 2750 bail and was released.

Transit Police Arrest Glen Rock Juveniles

At 6:15 p.m., a train engineer on the NJT Main Line rail road reported that two people were walking along the tracks and waited until the last minute to get out of the way.  NJ Transit Police responded to the area by the Route 208 overpass, apprehended two Glen Rock juveniles and charged them with trespassing.  They were transported to Glen Rock Police HQ and released to their mother.  Glen Rock D/Sgt. Dean Ackermann assisted the Transit officers.

Unconscious Driver on Lincoln Avenue

At 7:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of an unconscious motorist on Lincoln Avenue.  P.O. Murray Yang subsequently arrested the driver, a 21-year-old Sparta man, and the passenger, a 39-year-old Haskell resident, and charged them with possession of a hypodermic needle.  P.O. Anna Marie Mattina also charged the driver with driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS).  The driver was transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Vandalism Reported at G.R.H.S.

At 9:15 a.m., officials at the Glen Rock High School reported damage at a baseball field behind the school.  Cinderblocks had been thrown around the baseball diamond, netting on the back-stop was ripped, beer cans littered the area and field maintenance equipment had been broken.  The incident occurred sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Murray Yang determined that the driver, a 36-year-old Paterson woman, was wanted on an outstanding warrant for forgery out of Hudson County.  The woman was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until she could be turned over the Officers from the Hudson County Sheriff"s Department.

Frank Riggio determined that the driver, a 21-year-old Kinnelon man, was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of the Passaic County Superior Court for contempt.  The man was held in the Glen Rock Police lock-up until he could be turned over to Officers from the Passaic County Sheriff's Department.

Driver Arrested for Insurance Fraud

At 11 p.m., P.O. James Calaski stopped a motor vehicle on Lincoln Avenue near Diamond Bridge and determined that the driver, a 41-year-old Trenton man, had a suspended driver’s license.  The man presented insurance information that was determined to be fraudulent.  The man was arrested for presenting a fraudulent insurance document to a law enforcement officer, which is a crime in the fourth degree, and issued a motor vehicle summons for driving with a suspended license.  The matter has been referred to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office for grand jury action.

Krauszer's Store Burglarized

At 5:41 a.m., a passerby reported that the front door of the Krauszer's store on Prospect Street had been smashed in.  P.O. Adam Pyatak responded and determined that a cash drawer had been taken.  The passerby did not observe the actor(s) and no other witnesses could be located.

Hamilton Avenue Resident Reports Theft

At 10:30 a.m., a resident of Hamilton Avenue reported that sometime between January 20th and March 4th, unknown person(s) had taken a 12-foot ladder and Weber grill from the side of his garage.  There were no witnesses and a more exact time frame could not be ascertained.

Highway Chase Ends in Glen Rock. 

At 10:12 p.m., Sgt. George Erlich, P.O Adam Pyatak, P.O. Robert Wojtecki and P.O. Bryan Scott responded to Route 208 South at the De Boer Bridge to assist Kinnelon and NJ State Police with a suspected drunken driver who crashed into the side of the highway bridge following a chase along three highways. 

No one was injured in the incident which had begun on Route 23 when Kinnelon Officers attempted to stop an erratic driver.  The subject vehicle failed to stop and proceeded north on Route 287 then south on Route 208. 

The driver a 52-year-old Saddle Brook man was arrested by Kinnelon Officers for eluding police and DWI; he was also issued motor vehicle summonses for driving without a license and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle.  The man was subsequently remanded to the Morris County jail in lieu of $ 50,000 bail. 

The Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene as well to contain a fluid spill as a result of the accident.
