Rental truck parked in the back of the lot at the abandoned A
& P food store. When the officer approached the truck it

At 4:19 AM Officers Eric Reamy, James Calaski and
Tour Supervisor Sgt. Jon Miller were dispatched to a home on
Elmwood Ave. after a female resident called 9-1-1 to report that
three males had just stolen her car out of the driveway as she

Made after Investigating a Suspicious Vehicle
At 8:24 PM Det. Sgt. Fred Stahman was on patrol in
his unmarked car when he observed two occupied vehicles in the
Fleet Bank parking lot located at the rear of 208 Harristown
Road. At this time of the night the lot is normally
empty. It is also in a remote location so the presence of
the two cars caught the detective's attention. Upon
approaching the cars, Det. Stahman smelled a strong odor of
marijuana coming from the interior. After back-up Officer
Chris McInerney arrived, the occupants of both cars were
interviewed and it was determined that one of the parties, a
27 year-old male party from Hawthorne, NJ had been smoking the
marijuana and was also in possession of additional marijuana that
was located in a bag under the seat. The drugs were seized,
the party arrested and transported to the station for
processing. It was also determined that the car was both
unregistered and uninsured out of the State of Georgia.
The driver was charged with one count of
possession of CDS (the marijuana) and issued two motor vehicle summonses.

Stop for a Car Driving with a Flat Tire Results in Recovery of a
Stolen Car and other Criminal Charges
At 2:14 PM Officer Eric Reamy was at the
intersection of Harristown and Maple Avenues when he noticed a car
driving by with a flat front tire. Believing the operator
did not know that the tire was flat, the officer stopped the car
in the 300 block of Harristown Road near the Hamilton
School. When the officer approached the lone female driver
he observed that she was bruised and bleeding about her
face. The operator was extremely emotional and the officer
had difficulty determining how she sustained her injures or even
who she was. As he was attempting to get the driver's
information, the officers was distracted for a minute by a passing
motorist complaining about a parking ticket she had just
received. Seeing this distraction as an opportunity, the
driver fled the scene, on foot, just as the officer learned from
Dispatch Center that the car was stolen. Officer Reamy
requested back-up and Tour Supervisor, Sgt. Gary Merselis
responded, along with Officer Adam Pyatak, James Calaski, Capt.
William Kealy and Chief Steven Cherry. Patrol officers,
along with Det. Sgt. Fred Stahman, Det. Dean Ackermann and Officer
Robert Wojtecki, began
searching for the female driver who was located after a short
search of the area by Sgt. Merselis. She was trying to hide
at the rear or the Indian Rock Townhouse Complex. The actor
was arrested, handcuffed and while being patted down, the officers
discovered hypodermic syringes and Heroin on her.
At the station she was examined by GR EMS and
refused medical attention for her injuries. She was charged
with receiving stolen property (the auto), resisting arrest,
possession of drugs and possession of hypodermic needles.
The actor, a 27 year old resident of Fair Lawn,
was held at the station until she appeared before Municipal Court
Judge Thornwall who set bail. The cause of her bruises is still under
investigation. The car was stolen on May 14, 2002, from the

bike. The homeowner got into his car and gave chase to the
actor who was located on Lincoln Ave. The actor gave no resistance
when he was confronted by the bike's owner. The resident
took back his bike as well as a backpack that he believed belonged

Vehicle finds Officers Tracking the Driver of a Possible Stolen
Truck
At 2:05 AM Officer William Van Dyk and Sgt. Jon
Miler were dispatched to the area of Dean and High Streets on a
report of a pickup truck being driven in an erratic manner. When
the officers arrived they found no vehicle in the immediate
area. While they were checking the properties for damage,
Sgt. Miller noticed the tail lights of a pickup truck rolling down
the driveway of 434 Broad Street (next to Suburban Glass).
The truck stopped only when it collided with the fence at the end
of the driveway. The Sergeant then watched a person bail out
of the truck and run south towards the railroad tracks and the
Ridgewood Auto Wash. After advising Officer Van Dyk and
requesting assistance from the Ridgewood Police, a check of the
truck found it to be in drive, with the engine still running. The
keys were in the ignition.
The officers believed that the vehicle may have
just been stolen and when the driver spotted the police, he drove
it down the driveway and ran away. A computer check of the
registration did not indicate that it had been reported stolen,
however the owner may not have known yet. Because of the
circumstances, the Bergen County Police K-9 unit was requested to
track the suspect. Through the pouring rain, the dog tracked south
along the railroad to the Rock Road crossing and finally to the
Exxon station at Rock Road and Maple Ave. where the scent was
lost. No suspects were located.
The truck was impounded and held until the owner
could be contacted and the situation investigated further.

Oakland Man
Arrested for Burglary to Rock Road Home as he Attempts to Flee.
At 3:31 AM Officer Dan Dour and Sgt. Jon Miller
were dispatched to a Rock Road residence after a frantic 9-1-1
call was received of an in-progress break in. Officer Dour
was only 2 blocks away from the location and met with a neighbor
who heard the glass breaking. The neighbor also observed a
small, dark colored car backing down a side street without any
lights on as it was fleeing the scene. Officer Dour radioed
the suspect vehicle's description to Sgt. Miller who was on
Lincoln Ave. The Sergeant observed a vehicle fitting the
description and stopped it on Lincoln Ave. by Parker Ave.
The suspect had several cuts on his arms and legs and when
questions by the officer he admitted to breaking into the
home. With the assistance of Fair Lawn and Ridgewood police,
the suspect was arrested and transported to the station. His
car was impounded.
On call Detective Sgt. Fred Stahman was notified
to process the scene and assist in preparing the
complaints.
Because of the injuries sustained to the suspect
as he was breaking into the house, GR EMS was notified and he was
transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for treatment,
accompanied by Officer Dour. Off-duty Officer George Erlich
had to be called in early from the day tour to assist in covering
patrol as the report and complaints were being prepared.
The actor, a 41 years old Oakland resident who was
formally from Glen Rock, has no significant
criminal history and is the brother of the homeowner.
Neither party has seen each other in over three years and it is
believed that he broke into the home to scare the resident and not
to commit a theft or any other crime.
After bail was set at $5000.00, the actor, who has
a mental health history, began acting irrational to the point that
he had to be taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for
treatment. He was eventually admitted and turned-over-to the
custody of the Bergen County Sheriff's Department.

At 1:05 PM an 82 year old Glen Rock resident came
to the police station to report that he had just been the victim
of a possible scam and sexual contact. The resident stated
to investigating officer Robert Wojtecki and Sgt. Jon Miller that
he had been sitting in his living room with the front door open
when a female just walked into the home and asked him if he
need her to clean the house. When the resident declined the
services, the actor then offered him sexual favors for
money. Again the resident declined, however the female actor
removed her clothes and then began to removed the trousers of the victim. The resident told the actor to stop
or he would call the police. She stopped and told the victim
that she would leave, if he bought her lunch. The victim,
who was scared and confused by the activity, agreed to buy her lunch and drove her to a nearby restaurant and
then to a convenience store. When she exited the
vehicle, he drove off and came directly to the station.
The victim described the actor as a
African-American female, 5'10, 115-120 lbs, wearing a black &
white bandana covering her hair, along with a gray tee shirt and
blue jeans. She appeared to be between 20 and 30 years of
age. The victim was unable to provide a name or address of

into the Front of the Rock Sweet Shop
At 8:35 AM Officer George Erlich was dispatched to
the Rock Sweet Shop at 240 Rock Road (in the Central Business District)
on a report that a car had just driven through the front of the
store. When Officer Erlich arrived he found that the hood
and tires of the car were into the front of the store.
Incredibly there was nobody in that portion of the business when
the car struck and none of the employees were injured. Usually the
store is very busy on a Sunday morning with customers buying
newspapers.
The driver, a resident of Glen Rock, stated
that when she pulled into the angle parking spot she may have accidentally

Started in High School Boy's Bathroom
At 11:16 AM Officers George Erlich, Art Faber,
Mike Ciaramella and Sgt. Jon Miller were dispatched on a fire
alarm that had been activated at the Middle / High School
complex. When officers arrived they found the building had
already been evacuated and they were informed by school officials

fire, which was contained to that one room, produced a tremendous
amount of smoke, making visibility, at times, in the hallway
almost impossible. Damage was confined to the Boy's
bathroom.
A full response from the Glen Rock Fire Department
with assistance from the Ridgewood and Fair Lawn FD's, had the
blaze under control in a matter of minutes and firefighters then
turned their efforts to quickly ventilating the smoke from the
building. The Glen Rock EMS was on scene, but there were no
injuries. The children and staff were allowed back into the
building about two hours later.
