When the officers arrived they found no vehicle in the immediate area.  While they were checking the properties for damage, Sgt. Miller noticed the tail lights of a pickup truck rolling down the driveway of 434 Broad Street (next to Suburban Glass).  The truck stopped only when it collided with the fence at the end of the driveway.  The Sergeant then watched a person bail out of the truck and run south towards the railroad tracks and the Ridgewood Auto Wash.  After advising Officer Van Dyk and requesting assistance from the Ridgewood Police, a check of the truck found it to be in drive, with the engine still running. The keys were in the ignition.

Resident reports Inappropriate Sexual Contact by Houseguests

At 7:46 PM a female Glen Rock resident responded to the station to report that she had been the victim of an alleged inappropriate sexual contact by three male guests that had been staying at the residence.  The victim met with Detective Sergeant Fred Stahman who interviewed her.  She claimed that the inappropriate contact took place between 3 and 3:30AM after a night of heavy drinking.  Unfortunately, the victim was unable to provide any information about the males at her home and was reluctant to consider pressing charges, if they could even be located.

Because of the seriousness of the claim, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Sex Crimes Unit was notified and after speaking with the victim it was determined that there was no basis for a criminal complaint or further investigation unless new information is discovered.

Arson Fire Started in High School Boy's Bathroom

At 11:16 AM Officers George Erlich, Art Faber, Mike Ciaramella and Sgt. Jon Miller were dispatched on a fire alarm that had been activated at the Middle / High School complex.  When officers arrived they found the building had already been evacuated and they were informed by school officials that there was a fire in a High School boy's bathroom.  The fire, which was contained to that one room, produced a tremendous amount of smoke, making visibility, at times, in the hallway almost impossible.  Damage was confined to the Boy's bathroom.

A full response from the Glen Rock Fire Department with assistance from the Ridgewood and Fair Lawn FD's, had the blaze under control in a matter of minutes and firefighters then turned their efforts to quickly ventilating the smoke from the building.  The Glen Rock EMS was on scene, but there were no injuries.  The children and staff were allowed back into the building about two hours later.

Because the fire was determined to be intentionally set, G.R. Detective Dean Ackermann along with investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Arson Squad  responded to the scene and will continue the investigation.

Any person with information about this arson fire is asked to contact the Police Department’s Detective Bureau at (201) 652-3800.
